Price in Canada: Standard or Vault Edition?

On October 28, the Canadian PlayStation Store and the Xbox store showed the same prices: $89.99 for the Standard Edition and $129.99 for the Vault Edition. Steam showed CA$89.99 for the Standard Edition. Sales tax depends on your province. With Ontario's 13% HST, that is $101.69 and $146.89; with GST and QST in Quebec, $103.47 and $149.46.

The Vault Edition is digital only. According to Activision, it adds to the base game:

You do not have to decide now. Owners of the digital Standard Edition can upgrade to the Vault Edition later; Activision lists the upgrade at US$30 or the regional equivalent. Boxed copies cannot be upgraded, and they only exist for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass?

No. The Vault Edition's listing on the Canadian Xbox store states that the game is not on Xbox Game Pass this year, so a subscription will not get you in. The same listing notes that online multiplayer on Xbox requires a Game Pass Essential membership, sold separately.

File size and PC requirements

Before launch, the PlayStation Game Size account listed about 117 GB for the PS5 version without Warzone, a 42 GB Warzone pack, and about 160 GB once every pack is added up, Beebom reported. The real figure depends on which packs you install and grows with updates, so check the game's page in your console's store.

On PC, Activision's support page sets the launch requirements:

How it runs on Nintendo Switch 2

The Switch 2 version launched on the same day as the others, and Nintendo Life gave it 9 out of 10 in its October 23 review. The campaign runs at 30 frames per second, multiplayer targets 60 in most modes, and DMZ targets 40 when docked and 30 in handheld mode. The environments are less detailed than on the other platforms, the review notes.

What is Gunny?

Gunny is a small widget in the bottom right of the loadout screen. Pick a range, short, balanced or long, and it builds a full loadout from the attachments you have already unlocked for each weapon. Its suggestions improve as you level up your guns, and you can swap out any piece.

In July, a former Call of Duty leaker described it as an AI chatbot. Infinity Ward replied that "Gunny is handcrafted by our developers, not AI," and that it recommends builds based on unlocked attachments, PC Gamer reported. The same article adds a caveat: the game's Steam page discloses that the team uses generative AI tools to help create some in-game assets.

Should you trust its builds? French site ActuGaming finds them bland: Gunny chases positive stats everywhere, while the best builds usually give up something to strengthen something else. Use it as a starting point, then build your own or follow the community's builds.

What critics say

On October 28, OpenCritic showed a Top Critic Average of 85, with 97% of critics recommending the game. On Switch 2, Nintendo Life scored it 9 out of 10. These averages still move as reviews come in.

The Itaewon footage controversy

The game's opening title sequence is a montage of news reports about a fictional North Korean invasion of South Korea. South Korean players spotted a brief archival clip in it, a paramedic performing CPR, and identified it as footage from the Itaewon Halloween crowd crush in Seoul, which killed 159 people on October 29, 2022, Video Games Chronicle reported.

Activision acknowledged that some real news footage was included to convey the game's fictional story, and said it did not intend to reference or make light of any real tragedy, including Itaewon, according to the Korea Times. The Itaewon Disaster Bereaved Families Association asked Activision to remove the clip, and the Korea Game Users Association asked for it to be replaced in an update, with an explanation and an apology. At first, Activision did not say whether it would remove the footage.

Update, October 30, 2026: Activision apologized to the bereaved families and said the clip will be completely removed in the game's next update, scheduled for November 12, the BBC and the Korea Herald reported; the Korea Herald cites a statement Activision gave to the South Korean broadcaster MBC. The 10.29 Itaewon Disaster Bereaved Families Association welcomed the decision, but told the BBC it had not received a direct apology from Activision.
